A country wide, quantitative, household survey has been carried out in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia to develop national level data on gender based violence (GBV), in particular on domestic violence against women that will enable the formulation of targeted policies and programmes and raise of awareness among the public.

The surveys will help to identify at the country level;

  • the prevalence of domestic violence against women, with particular emphasis on physical, sexual and emotional violence by male intimate partners and other family members,
  • the perception about GBV,
  • the extent to which intimate partner violence is associated with a range of health, education, legal and administrative outcomes,
  • factors that may either protect or put women at risk of partner violence,
  • the strategies and services that women use to deal with violence by an intimate partner,
  • the causes and consequences of GBV,
  • the effect of internal displacement on GBV.

The results of the surveys will be shared with the public including policy and decision makers, governmental officials, representatives of civil society and academia, media and other stakeholders in the countries. The findings are expected to be used widely in policy formulation and advocacy activities.
